Entry #3 -- Interest Squared

Not that Human Geo has to do with math. =P (Well there are some interesting formulas that make you wonder how much of a genius the person must have been to find it).

But I shall propose a "Learning Success Formula", as ... cheesy as that may sound. Adding onto Einstein's saying, I guess...

Learning success = 80% hard work, 19.9% interest, 0.1 % genius.

Ok, after I typed that I realize "interest squared" had nothing to do with that. But interest matters a lot, and even though I didn't take the AP exam yet, I can tell already that you will very VERY likely NOT be able to do well in a subject you do not like!

It may sound obvious but...

Well, a few days ago I managed to have access to a bookstore and briefly looked over the practice quizzes for all 3 of my subjects, and even though 'Human Geo' is the supposed "easiest" of the 3, my results for the practice quiz in Human Geo ... was the worst.

How come?

I forgot 90% of most things, a problem with self-studying to watch out for. This is definitely not good news, as I am now receiving ever more messages saying that I should focus on my GPA instead of being 'overambitious'. OK, but I'm just over-interested...OR AM I?

I originally chose to study Human Geo because I had no idea what it was about (clearly very interest-oriented), yet after I read a few chapters, I somehow still wasn't satisfied with the answer and continued to read.

The real life applications were very interesting, and several times I did find myself in those "unstoppable readings" that I just continued. Maybe that's just me.

BUT I could feel that Human Geo was, to see the glass half empty, my least favorite of the 3.

Psychology -- Sciences. Always a favorite.

World History -- NEVER knew that much about the world! Now I have a good flowing timeline without links and loose terms. I won't have to return a "blank face" when someone says Joan of Arc to me. (Not that...people go randomly blurbing 'Joan of Arc' or any other proper noun for that matter)

But Human Geography...there just isn't that connection, you know? (As if it's a human being)

This did happen a few days ago, and the good news is that after reading a recent chapter on Economic Geo, perhaps it appealed to my math interests -- I understood the chapter a LOT more.

So the "forgetting thing" doesn't apply anymore...yet. But it is worth mentioning...

And I shall review everything soon -- and my "interest" only applies to new information o=

(Though that shouldn't be a problem, seeing that I forgot 90% -- but you know what I mean) ;)
